Moffitt Caveman and Natural Ventilation Discovery
Once upon a time, one enterprising caveman discovered the power of natural ventilation. His name was Bill Moffitt.
Learn about the discovery of natural ventilation, and the invention of the MoffittVent in our Caveman Creativity video. This tongue-in-cheek-cartoon shows how the Caveman found out about natural ventilation.
Natural Ventilation Discovery thanks to the Moffitt Caveman
Through trial-and-error, he learned how to exhaust the hot air, while also protecting himself from the rain. Natural ventilation worked for him during the stone age, and it can still work in your building as well.
We like to say that the cave person invented natural ventilation because it’s been around for as long as the planet. The system utilizes gravity along with the natural flow of air, to improve airflow in a space. Many cultures have discovered natural ventilation for themselves. Teepees have an opening at the top for ventilation and smoke exhaust. Pagodas utilize cross ventilation and the stack effect to keep air moving through a space. Other architectural solutions, like Arabian Wind Catchers bring cool air into the space.
