What is CFD Modeling?
CFD, or Computational Fluid Dynamics uses numerical analysis to study fluid flows. It is often used for aerodynamic and aerospace analysis, but it can also be used to determine how air moves throughout your building.
A CFD model can show where air enters and leaves your facility. Furthermore, it can show where the warm air collects, and the cool air comes in.
By using CFD modeling for our ventilation solutions, it allows us to get a better picture of our customers current ventilation issues, and how to solve them.
6 Steps of CFD Modeling
- Collect Data: Free site visit to take temperature readings and analyzing the current air flow.
- Assess: Create a model of your building using the dimensions and layouts recorded during the site visit.
- Design: Import the building the model into the CFD design program.
- Compare: Iterate and modify the new ventilation solution to find the optimal air flow solution.
- Review: Discover how the temperature has changed at various locations and elevations in the building.
- Implement: Choose a solution and schedule the fabrication and installation.

CFD Modeling Before & After Comparison
- "Before" shows the plant's old, inefficient ventilation system. Note the number of roof fans (represented by the cubes on the roof).
- "After" illustrates the impact of the new ventilation system. The additional cubes, and their placement, improve warm air exhaust and reduce the temperatures in the building.
