Corrugated packaging manufacturing requires high-temperature processes to effectively form sheets of paper into high-strength material. Combining the high ambient temperatures with heat-producing processes is asking for heat-related illness.

The Process of Improving Internal Working Conditions

Moffitt dispatched our plant ventilation experts to the Glendale Packaging Plant, where they were greeted by sweltering internal temperatures. It was immediately apparent that the working conditions were dangerously hot. This put workers at risk of heat-related illness, and the company at risk of OSHA violations. There was no doubt this was a facility in need of powered cooling to ensure worker safety and improve productivity. 

With average outside temperatures reaching over 100℉ in the summer, powered cooling equipment was a must. Natural ventilation can only reduce internal temperatures to ambient levels, which is plenty in more temperate climates. The combination of sun exposure and higher temperatures demanded a more powerful solution. We used four roof-mounted DeltaStream commercial evaporative cooling units paired with two up-blast fans. This combination forced hot air out of the building and pumped cooled air in, lowering the internal temperature to safer levels. 

Using advanced CFD modeling and extensive experience, the Moffitt plant ventilation specialists were able to develop a budget-friendly solution that provided the necessary relief. The new solution reduced sky-high internal temperatures by 20 degrees.
