Free Ventilation Site Evaluations
Is your plant feeling a little warm lately? Not hearing the hum of the roof fans anymore? Employees taking more breaks and complaining about the heat? You might have a ventilation problem.
Fortunately, Moffitt’s free site evaluation and design service is the solution.
Heat Waves Throughout the U.S.

Temperature records are being broken from coast to coast this summer. Cities throughout the U.S. are experiencing heat domes, droughts, and high temperatures. As a result, there are growing rates of heat-related illnesses. Especially in large, hot factories.
Worst of all, these high temperatues are only expected to continue. As a result, OSHA is conducting site evaluations for heat-related issues in hot factories. In some places, like California, Washington, and a growing number of other states, building owners face fines if workers have endure excess heat.

What to Expect for Your Free Site Evaluation
A ventilation site evaluation is simple and requires little to no work on your part. Here’s how it works.
First, a Moffitt team member, such as a Project Engineer, CFD Engineer, or Salesperson will greet you at your plant. Then, the team will conduct a general ventilation assessment. By recording temperatures, taking measurements, and surveying existing conditions, measurements, they can get a clear picture of the issues that are currently impacting air-flow and ventilation.
We may even place temperature sensors to evaluate the conditions throughout the day, week, or month to get an even more accurate assesment of the building’s temeperature changes.
Next, our team will discuss specific temperature issues, ventilation goals, and concerns you have regarding the building. Ths includes everything from construction limitations to budget issues. This is all used to create a custom ventilation solution to improve your current ventilation.
The whole site evaluation typically takes between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size of the building. To help expedite the process, we request an associate who is familiar with the processes, building, and equipment be available during the walk-through.
New Ventilation Solution Requirements
Ventilation solutions are custom for each plant, and as a result, the more information that you can provide the more accurate the final system will be. The following information will help the Moffitt team design the best possible solution.
- Building drawings; structural, mechanical, or architectural plans. Even old or outdated plans are useful as they can all help us develop the model.
- List of existing ventilation equipment: This includes fans, (whether they’re operable or not), roof vents, louvers, and doors that stay open during the day.
- Heat-producing equipment details: Knowing when high-heat producing equipment, like heat-dryers or metal furnaces are typically used, can help us determine the heat load that needs to be offset.
Knowing the ventilation extremes is crucial to developing a truly impactful design. Sharing the most information possible is the key to the most accurate and efficient solution.
CFD Modeling for Ventilation

In particularly challenging facilities a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Model might be useful. This tool is very useful for buildings with lots of activity on different floors, buildings with lots of different rooms, and facilities in challanging climates. These vivid computer models show the air velocity, heat transfers, and even pressure changes within a building. All of this is useful for developing the best ventilation solution.
The cost of CFD models meant they were once only used for massive facilities like steel mills and power plants. However, the benefti, and long term cost savings have made them more common for buildings of all shapes and sizes. A CFD ventilation model, developed by the experts at Moffitt, is the best way to see the impact a new ventilation solution can have before you install the equipment.
Don’t Wait for a Tragedy before Taking Action
The temperatures are only going to continue to rise, putting more workers at risk of indoor heat-related illnesses. Our free site evaluations are the easiest first step to addressing extreme building temperature. Contact Moffitt to schedule your free site evaluation today!
