Heat-Related OSHA Site Evaluations
Don’t Sweat Heat-Related OSHA Site Evaluations; Moffitt Can Help!
As more states adopt stricter indoor temperature restrictions to protect America’s workforce from heat-related illnesses, OSHA is cracking down on businesses that don’t take precautions against extreme interior temperatures. In some cases, companies with buildings where internal temperatures hover over 100℉ have already experienced heat-related OSHA site evaluations, leaving them scrambling for long-term solutions.
Moffitt’s free on-site ventilation evaluation and design service is that solution.
Heat-Related OSHA Site Evaluations Are On The Rise
This past summer was one of record-breaking heat, cooking parts of America and resulting in growing rates of heat-related illnesses amongst industrial workers. These temperatures are projected to continue their upward trend as the climate crisis continues. As a result, OSHA site evaluations for heat-related noncompliance are becoming more and more frequent. Upgrading ventilation systems is becoming increasingly vital for industrial and commercial buildings, especially if OSHA has already been to visit.
We’re Ready for Rapid Response
Here at Moffitt, we fully understand the importance of quickly addressing noncompliance and have teams of highly experienced ventilation experts across the country ready for rapid response. We strive to arrive within 48 hours to personally evaluate your building’s current ventilation system and help design the best solution. Our ventilation design plans prove to OSHA that you’re taking the safety of workers seriously and are taking action to address any noncompliance.
What to Expect for Your Free Site Evaluation
When Moffitt’s ventilation experts arrive, they will conduct a general ventilation assessment of the facility by surveying existing conditions, measurements, and general building information while verifying all existing building ventilation and openings that could be contributing to ventilation. We will then discuss specific issues, ventilation goals, and concerns to create a custom work plan explaining how we can help improve your current ventilation system.
This evaluation typically takes between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the size and complexity of the building, and may include placing sensors around the building to record internal temperatures. To help expedite the process, we request an associate who is familiar with the processes, building, and equipment be available during the walk-through.
As ventilation solutions are custom for each plant, providing our ventilation experts with the following information will help ensure the best possible solution.
- Building drawings; structural, mechanical, or architectural. Even if they are old or outdated.
- List of existing building ventilation equipment, such as fans, roof vents, louvers, and doors.
- Types of processes that take place at the facility.
- List of heat-producing equipment located on-site.
If the facility is experiencing extreme conditions due to inadequate building design or complicated building geometry, it may be a good candidate for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Modeling. This tool is a premium service that shows the air velocity, heat movement, and pressure changes within a building to help us develop the best ventilation solution possible for your specific plant.
Don’t Wait for an OSHA Site Evaluation to Take Action
The temperatures are only going to continue to rise, putting more workers at risk of indoor heat-related illnesses. While our free site evaluations help show OSHA you’re taking steps towards compliance, the best course of action is to proactively address building temperature extremes.
